From the Koran, chapter 4, verse 34:
'Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them, forsake them in beds apart, and beat them....'
Notice how it's written that if a man merely fears disobedience from 'his' woman, he can then beat her.
It's important to know that these passages exist in the Koran and that Muslim wifebeaters[wivesbeaters] can Islamically justify their behavior by these 'words of Allah', but when it comes down to it, it does not matter in the entire scheme of things that the Koran sanctions the beating of women because that very sanction, among Many others, delegitimizes Islam as a belief system worthy of respect.
