Islam vs "Islamism" panel discussion

I had the great honor of joining, late in the game, a panel discussion about Islam at David Horowitz's Restoration Weekend. At the start of the conference, I was really looking forward to attend the debate panel between Robert Spencer & Andrew C. McCarthy on whether the problem we face is Islam or "Islamism". It would be a continuation of an online debate they've been having (here & here). Then a few hours before their debate, I was asked by the moderator if I'd like to take part in it, following the addition of another panelist, Baroness Caroline Cox. I happily agreed and then went and quickly prepared some notes to make sure I got the points I wanted to get across. This being only the second time I've spoken in front of an audience, along with the short time I had to prepare for it, I think I did as good as I could. Let me know what you think.

Newt Speak

Just heard Mark Steyn mention a blog post from Pundit & Pundette that's critical of Newt Gingrich and which hits on his "portentous language". From the piece:   (Try it at home. It's mostly in the adverbs. Use of the term "Radical Nazism" leads to a search for "Moderate Nazis"

I took part in a panel discussion on Islam at David Horowitz's Restoration Weekend. In my presentation I observed that using terms such as "Radical Nazism" during WW2 would have led us to try to find "Moderate Nazis" and the audience reacted to that very generously. A glimpse of the analysis in Dr. Leonard Peikoff’s forthcoming book, The DIM Hypothesis.

At the 2010 Objectivist conference/OCON, Dr. Leonard Peikoff was presenting material from his forthcoming book, The DIM Hypothesis, in which he analyzes Western culture and history from the perspective of the epistemological process of integration. Peikoff, in an answer to a question about Barack Obama at his talk, said that Obama was not a socialist as many have concluded, because, as he put it, socialists or communists are examples of what he calls “misintegration,” or integration by non-rational means. Obama, Peikoff thinks, is anti-ideological, and as such has no long-range guiding values or theory of society. He does not integrate his thoughts and actions by any means, valid or invalid. Rather, Peikoff describes Obama as an almost-but-not-yet-fully consistent egalitarian nihilist, and thus a manifestation of the same trend which Peikoff calls D2, i.e., the form of Kantianism that gave us non-objective art, quantum mechanics, and progressive education. Because I am no expert on philosophy, for more on Peikoff’s views, I refer you to his forthcoming book.

Here's what I wrote then, August, 2010:

It’s not only “birthers” who bring up Barack Hussein Obama’s birth certificate these days, Obama himself did so yesterday, in order to lump in the 24% of Americans who think Obama is a Muslim with the “birthers” movement, in what I think could be the first labeling of the “faithers” movement. It was in answer to a question by Brian Williams of NBC “News” yesterday, about Americans’ confusion regarding Obama’s faith. The Drudge Report thought Obama’s strange comment, quoted in my graphic, was worth placing atop his page yesterday.

And so given that Barack Obama has referred to himself as a citizen of the world, given that he’s made it clear that he’s a one worlder and an environmentalist, and since it can be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Barack Hussein Obama was in fact born on earth, then here’s my answer to his problems.

Frank Miller is Will Kane

In the film, High Noon, the bad guy was named Frank Miller and the good guy was named Will Kane. In real life, Frank Miller's the good guy taking on real life bad guys through his work as a cartoonist. He's taken on Jihad with HOLY TERROR and he just wrote a piece against the "occupiers" called ANARCHY that has made leftists crazier than usual. To Americans who are sick and tired of the enemy and his leftist enablers, show some support for a man who's essentially standing alone as Will Kane did in High Noon.

This One's For CHARLIE HEBDO

UPDATE 9/18/2012. The French magazine, "Charlie Hebdo", is set to publish several cartoons of Mohammed on Wednesday.

My original posting from November 2011:

scuMuslims are likely behind the attack on the offices of the French satirical political weekly newspaper, Charle Hebdo. The attack comes a day after the publication named Mohammad as its "editor in chief" for its next issue. In 2007, the paper reprinted the Danish Mohammad cartoons. As for my term "ScuMuslims", to those ______ who still feel a need to ask, "Do you mean ALL Muslims?!?" No, _______, just Islam's consistent practitioners. But I also wouldn't be shocked if Islamophilic leftists were behind the attack. Either way, I hope the scum are caught asap and that Charlie Hebdo continues its work, with More Feeling. UPDATE: They didn't submit 

I did this drawing of Mohammad a short while back, after I was asked by a publication to make a visual in response to a Geert Wilder's speech on Mohammad.

"The historical Muhammad was the savage leader of a gang of robbers from Medina. Without scruples they looted, raped and murdered. The sources describe orgies of savagery where hundreds of people’s throats were cut, hands and feet chopped off, eyes cut out, entire tribes massacred. An example is the extinction of the jewish Kurayza tribe in Medina in 627. One of those who chopped off their heads was Muhammad. The women and children were sold as slaves. Confronted with the lunacy of Islamic terrorists today, it is not hard to find out where the lunacy comes from." - Geert Wilders from his op-ed, "Time To Unmask Mohammad"


As to why I give Mohammad a Hitler mustache - Growing up among Muslims, it was not uncommon to hear Hitler being spoken of in glowing terms. No doubt because of the hardcore anti-semitism inherent in both Islam and Nazism, and so within Mohammad and Hitler. And so it's natural that Mein Kampf - My Struggle - and with jihad literally meaning struggle, "My Jihad"- would be a best seller today in the Muslim world. Further, Hitler praised Islam as a "Masculine religion", emphasizing the hardcore misogynism within Islam. Hitler has been the icon of evil for as long a I can remember, and it's time Mohammad is made to be understood in that way as well. I refer to the Muslim World as A World Where The Bad Guy Won, regardless of the personally peaceful nature of many Muslims. As I put it recently -


Jihadists don't represent most Muslims. They represent Islam. 


I concede the point that it is indeed an interpretation of Islam that is the problem.

Back to the drawing at hand: I made Mohammad jaundiced, lit. & fig., to emphasize how sick and hostile he was. And Mohammad dyed his hair with the red dye henna, so I gave him a blood-drenched beard, also to emphasize how much blood has been spilled in the name of "peace".


Oh, and one more thing, Islam meant peace before Mohammad cartoons. :)

I might just smoke one in support of Mark Block and in protest against those who are acting as if there's nothing worse than smoking a cigarette.
