September 2

Ayn Rand began writing her magnum opus, ATLAS SHRUGGED, on September 2, 1946. September 2 is also the day of the year on which the story opens, and a date which is noted several times throughout the novel.

From the novel: "A white rectangle hung over the city, imparting the date to the men in the streets below. In the rusty light of this evening's sunset, the rectangle said: September 2."

Of course September 2 is important. It also happens to be my birthday.
